The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will launch a new direct weekday MARC Train connection between Montgomery County and Baltimore beginning Monday, September 28.
The new service will provide a one-seat, transfer-free connection between communities along the Brunswick and Camden lines, including Germantown, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Kensington, Silver Spring, College Park, Laurel and Baltimore. One train will travel to Baltimore in the morning, with another making the return trip in the evening.
According to MTA, the changes could reduce some MARC commute times by as much as 60 minutes. A trip from Silver Spring to Baltimore Camden Station will drop from 118 minutes to 57 minutes, while Gaithersburg to Baltimore will decrease from 137 minutes to 78 minutes. Travel from Germantown to College Park will decrease from 90 minutes to 46 minutes.
“This expansion of our MARC train service will further the Moore-Miller Administration’s priority of connecting people to opportunity,” MTA Administrator Tony Bridges said. “Providing a direct link between these communities will help build a stronger and more sustainable Maryland.”
The service will directly connect Brunswick, Point of Rocks, Barnesville, Germantown, Metropolitan Grove, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Kensington, Silver Spring, College Park, Laurel and Baltimore. MTA said the new connection is being created by adjusting existing service and will not require additional annual operating costs.
Several Brunswick and Camden Line trains will have schedule changes to accommodate the new service.
