Maryland has been ranked the 18th most fun state in America for 2026, according to a new report from personal-finance website WalletHub. Neighboring Virginia finished 26th.
WalletHub compared all 50 states across 26 metrics intended to measure the variety, accessibility and affordability of recreational activities. Factors ranged from movie costs and access to national parks to nightlife options per capita.
Maryland received an overall score of 43.24, compared with Virginia’s score of 38.24. California topped the rankings, followed by Florida, Illinois, Nevada and New York. Maryland ranked 13th for its variety of arts, entertainment and recreation establishments. The state also placed 15th for amusement parks per capita and access to national parks.
Additional rankings for Maryland included 19th for performing-arts theaters per capita, 21st for fitness centers per capita and 25th for restaurants per capita. For the full report, please visit:
