Local Taco Spot Named One of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia’s Best Cheap Eats

Trippy Tacos at 12134 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton has been named one of “The Best Cheap Eats Around the DC Area” by Washingtonian.

The recently published list highlights 60 restaurants where diners can get what Washingtonian describes as a satisfying meal for less than $25 per person, excluding drinks, tax and tip. More than 200 restaurants throughout the region were considered for the list.

Washingtonian highlighted Trippy Tacos for its birria tacos, describing them as “some of the best around.” The publication also singled out the birria ramen and mulitas, along with tacos featuring lengua and al pastor pork and the baleada sencilla, made with egg, beans, cheese, avocado and crema.

Trippy Tacos opened its brick-and-mortar restaurant location in 2022 after initially operating as a food truck. The menu features tacos with freshly made corn tortillas, quesadillas, burritos, nachos and mulitas, along with a variety of other Latin street foods. The business was founded by University of Maryland graduate Chris Robles, who traveled to Los Angeles to learn how to make tacos before returning to Maryland and launching Trippy Tacos as a food truck in 2019.
