Purple Line construction continues at multiple locations in Silver Spring and Long Branch, with temporary and long-term road, lane and sidewalk closures in effect.
Georgia Avenue will be closed overnight between Thayer Avenue and Wayne Avenue through Wednesday, September 9. The closure will be in effect from 10pm until 5am and will also restrict access to Bonifant Street. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained. The closure is necessary for crews to safely install overhead catenary wires over the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Bonifant Street.
The intersection of Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street is also scheduled to close overnight for approximately two weeks beginning on or about Monday, September 14. The closure will be in effect from 10pm until 4am through Friday, September 25, while crews install overhead catenary wires. Resident and pedestrian access will be maintained.
The long-term closure of Arliss Street between Piney Branch Road and Garland Avenue remains in effect while crews install utilities and construct the Purple Line’s Long Branch Station. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should follow posted signs and detours and stay out of construction work zones.
