ABC7 has promoted longtime Washington-area weather forecaster Steve Rudin to Senior Meteorologist, recognizing a career that has spanned more than three decades in the region.
Rudin announced the promotion on Facebook this week, noting that the title was offered to him by the station. “What makes this especially meaningful is that this was a title the station offered to me, and I truly appreciate the confidence and recognition behind it,” Rudin wrote. “After more than 30 years forecasting weather in the Washington area, I still feel incredibly fortunate to do what I love in a place that has been home for so much of my career.”
Rudin joined ABC7/WJLA-TV in 2006 and appears on 7News during the week. Before joining the station’s Storm Alert Weather Team, he worked at Washington’s CBS affiliate and the NBC affiliate in Madison, Wisconsin. He has also filled in as a weather anchor on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
During his career, Rudin has covered some of the region’s most significant weather events, including the Blizzard of 1996, Snowmageddon in 2010, Snowzilla in 2016, the College Park and La Plata tornadoes, tropical storms, hurricanes and periods of extreme heat and cold. “Proud of the work, thankful for the opportunity, and looking forward to what’s ahead,” Rudin wrote.
