The 2026 NFL season kicks off tonight with a Montgomery County connection, as Germantown native Brian Fleury makes his regular-season debut as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator in a Super Bowl rematch against the New England Patriots.
The defending champions will host New England at 8:20pm on NBC and Peacock, seven months and one day after defeating the Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl 60.
Fleury quarterbacked Seneca Valley High School’s 1997 state championship team before beginning his collegiate career at the University of Maryland. He later transferred to Towson University, where he played quarterback from 1999 through 2002 and earned a degree in sports management.
As we reported in February, Seattle hired Fleury following seven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, most recently as run game coordinator and tight ends coach. He previously coached the team’s tight ends from 2022 through 2024, following roles in offensive and defensive quality control.
Before joining San Francisco, Fleury spent three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, serving as a football research analyst in 2016 and director of football research from 2017 to 2018. Tonight, the former Seneca Valley quarterback steps into his new role on the NFL’s opening-night stage as Seattle begins its championship defense.
