Maurizio’s in Potomac is the only Maryland restaurant featured on Eater DC’s list of “Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings Around D.C. This Fall 2026.”
As previously reported, Maurizio’s is taking over the former Renato’s space at 10120 River Road in the Potomac Village Shopping Center. The Italian concept comes from WildGoat Hospitality, the team behind Cava Mezze, Julii, Melina, and Bouboulina.
The restaurant is named in honor of Maurizio Luise, a longtime friend of the founders and operations leader for the group who passed away unexpectedly in November 2025. According to the restaurant, the concept reflects “his warmth, generosity, and love of bringing people together around the table.”
Maurizio’s describes its approach as inspired by Italian home cooking, with fresh pastas, pizzas, and comforting dishes intended for meals shared with family and friends. Executive Chef Aris Tsekouras is leading the kitchen, with previously shared plans featuring crudo, burrata, chicken parmesan, and other Italian staples. Some dishes are also expected to nod to Renato’s and its decades-long presence in the Potomac community.
Eater’s preview adds rosemary focaccia, fritto misto, linguine and clams, and grilled branzino to the anticipated offerings. The publication also notes, “One unique feature is a dedicated Negroni bar menu full of riffs on the classic cocktail.”
The restaurant describes a bright interior with rich textures, patterned details, and an open kitchen, designed to create a welcoming neighborhood gathering place.
Our April coverage noted an alcohol license hearing scheduled for May 7, with an opening then anticipated in late spring or early summer. The restaurant is now expected to debut this fall, but an exact opening date is not yet available.
