Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana is bringing back Sunday service for the first time in six years. The restaurant will now be open from Wednesday-Sunday from 5pm-9pm or until the dough runs out.
The popular pizzeria, located at 12207 Darnestown Rd. in Gaithersburg, announced the change on social media this week. “After 6 years of being closed on Sundays. We are opening on Sunday’s starting this week. Hope to see you on Sundays,” the restaurant shared.
Inferno originally opened in October 2015 with service Tuesday through Sunday, including lunch hours on weekends. Not long after opening, owner and chef Tony Conte scaled back the restaurant’s schedule, eliminating lunch and eventually Sunday service as Inferno shifted its focus to a limited, dinner-only model.
The restaurant has most recently operated Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm-9pm, or until its daily supply of dough runs out. Inferno has developed a reputation for selling out, with customers frequently lining up outside before opening to secure a table.
Conte opened Inferno after spending nine years at The Oval Room in Washington, DC. While pizza is the restaurant’s centerpiece, its rotating selection of appetizers has also developed a strong following.
Inferno’s pizzas take inspiration from Neapolitan traditions while incorporating a more modern approach. The restaurant has highlighted the canotto style, which features a highly hydrated dough that creates a noticeably airy and puffed outer crust with areas of bubbling and char.
Inferno has also received national recognition for its pizza. This year, the restaurant was ranked No. 20 in the United States by 50 Top Pizza, an Italy-based organization that evaluates pizzerias around the world. Inferno was the only Montgomery County restaurant included on that year’s list.
