A Northern Virginia tea house that bills its signature dish as the “best popcorn chicken in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia)” is bringing the popular menu item to Maryland for the first time this weekend. A video preview is available below.
Teas’n You Fusion Tea House will celebrate the grand opening of its first Maryland location on Saturday, September 26 at 11am at 838 Rockville Pike in Rockville. The Northern Virginia bubble tea destination is taking over the space previously occupied by Cuppa Tea.
One of the main attractions will be the restaurant’s Basil Popcorn Chicken, a Taiwanese-style fried chicken made with chicken marinated in garlic, soy and traditional spices before being fried until crispy alongside fresh Thai basil. Customers can order the chicken mild or spicy.
While “best popcorn chicken in the DMV” is Teas’n You’s own self-proclaimed tagline rather than the result of a formal regional competition or ranking, the dish has also received praise from local food publications. Northern Virginia Magazine has previously highlighted the restaurant’s savory snacks and its popcorn chicken as a pairing with the shop’s extensive drink selection.
Teas’n You has also made changes to the ingredients used in the popular dish. The company partnered with The Organic Butcher of McLean to source chicken from Farmer Focus that is halal and raised without antibiotics. “We asked our friends there to help us source the best chicken we could, and now it’s all NAE and halal – raised on a farm called Farmer Focus, with no antibiotics ever,” Teas’n You said. More recently, the restaurant began preparing its popcorn chicken in Zero Acre cultured oil, allowing the company to offer the dish without traditional seed oils.
Founded in Vienna in 2017, Teas’n You has built a following across the DMV with a menu featuring loose-leaf teas, fruit-infused teas, milk teas, slush beverages, desserts, pastries and savory snacks. The Rockville grand opening will include buy one, get one free specials across the entire menu throughout opening weekend. The first 100 guests will also receive a free cupcake.
