Damon Anderson, who has covered MCPS high school football for The MoCoShow for several years, is expanding his coverage with the launch of his own independent regional platform focused on girls high school wrestling. This new platform is not associated with The MoCoShow.
DMV Girls Wrestling (@dmv.girls wrestling) officially launched on Instagram on September 21 and will cover girls wrestling across Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. The platform plans to feature news, interviews, rankings, analysis, event reporting and athlete profiles throughout the season.
Anderson, a former Division I wrestler and All-Met and All-County standout, said the platform was created as participation in girls wrestling continues to grow rapidly across the region and nationally. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, participation surpassed 74,000 wrestlers during the 2024-25 school year, an increase of 15% in one year, while nearly 1,000 additional schools added girls wrestling programs.
“Girls wrestling in our region deserves consistent coverage from people who understand the sport and respect the work these athletes put in,” Anderson said. “I want more people to know the wrestlers, coaches and programs building this sport across the DMV.”
DMV Girls Wrestling will cover public and private schools throughout the region, with Anderson leading conversations with athletes, coaches and others involved in the sport. Athletes, families, coaches and programs will also be able to submit publicly verifiable results, story ideas and event information for consideration.
Anderson’s work with The MoCoShow has primarily focused on Montgomery County high school football, where he has covered teams and athletes throughout MCPS for several years. DMV Girls Wrestling is an independent platform and expands his coverage beyond Montgomery County and into a sport in which he has his own competitive background.
