New York-based Nong Geng Ji is coming to Maryland, with a new location planned for 1701 Rockville Pike at The Shops at Congressional Village in Rockville. The restaurant will take over the former 7-Eleven space, which closed on December 24 after operating at the shopping center for roughly a decade.
Nong Geng Ji (农耕记 · 湖南菜) is a popular Chinese restaurant chain specializing in traditional Hunan cuisine, with its first U.S. location opening in January in Flushing, Queens. In less than a year, the restaurant has a 4.6 Google rating over more than 450 reviews.
The restaurant focuses on countryside-style Hunan cooking, known for its bold flavors, fresh peppers, aromatic dishes and wok-charred cooking. The Flushing restaurant features a rustic interior inspired by traditional Hunan rural culture and is led by chef Guohua Feng. Signature dishes include Stir-Fried Pork with Chili, Stir-Fried Pork with Abalone & Chili, Stir-Fried Free-Range Chicken and pressure-cooked ribs. Many dishes are served family-style, including selections presented over tabletop warmers.
The upcoming Rockville restaurant will mark Nong Geng Ji’s expansion out of New York and into Maryland. An opening timeframe has not yet been announced.
