Stay Lit, a smoke shop located at 7611 Willow Rd. in Frederick, has announced that it will permanently close.
The business initially announced the closure alongside a going-out-of-business sale, with all non-consumable merchandise marked 30% off and different discounts available on other items. Stay Lit said there will be no restocks and that it is also accepting offers for display cases, shelves, and other store fixtures.
In a subsequent update, the owners said theft by two employees contributed to the decision to close. According to Stay Lit, the employees were people the owners had provided significant personal assistance to and considered close friends. “They stole from us anyway,” the business wrote.
Stay Lit said it had dealt with theft previously, but described this incident as “the final nail in the coffin,” saying the financial loss was significant enough that a business of its size could not recover from it. The business did not identify the former employees or provide additional documentation regarding the allegations.
The store remains open during its closing sale from 9am-11pm daily at 7611 Willow Rd. in Frederick. An official final day of operation has not been announced.
