CSX will temporarily close several railroad crossings in Gaithersburg in October for rail replacement and resurfacing work on the northbound tracks. Similar work was completed on the southbound tracks last year.
The scheduled closures, weather permitting, are:
- Railroad Street Crossing: October 5-8
- Chestnut Street: October 6-9
- Metropolitan Grove Road: October 10-11
- Summit Avenue: October 12-15
The Railroad Street and Chestnut Street closures will overlap for several days.
During each closure, vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians will not be permitted to cross the railroad tracks. Detour routes will be posted, and the City of Gaithersburg is advising travelers to expect heavy traffic and use alternate routes when possible. The City of Gaithersburg said it will continue to provide updates as they become available.
