Panda Express Signs on to Replace TGI Friday’s

Panda Express is coming to Hagerstown, taking over the former TGI Fridays property at 17840 Garland Groh Blvd.

TGI Fridays closed the Hagerstown restaurant in January 2025, around the same time as the Rockville restaurant closed here in Montgomery County. At the time of the closure, the Hagerstown location directed customers to its locations in Frederick, Winchester and Gettysburg.

According to Thomas English Retail Real Estate, Panda Express has now signed a lease for the former restaurant property. The announcement comes less than a year after the real estate company acquired the site. The property is located along Garland Groh Blvd near I-81 and Route 40, directly in front of Walmart and within one of Hagerstown’s major retail areas.

Thomas English Retail Real Estate described the lease as part of its plan to transform the vacant restaurant property into a long-term commercial asset and thanked Jake Wilson and John Schultz of H&R Retail for their roles in bringing Panda Express to the site.

The Hagerstown closure came around the same time as another TGI Fridays closure in Maryland. The Rockville location at 12147 Rockville Pike in Pike Center permanently closed in January 2025 and a new tenant has not yet been announced. The White Oak-area restaurant at 12281 Tech Rd remained open, along with the Frederick location.

An opening date for the new Panda Express has not yet been announced.
