The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold its annual Bicycle Donation Drive on Friday, October 16, to collect used bicycles for residents in need.
Bicycles will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, outside the Montgomery County Council Office Building Garage at the corner of East Jefferson and Monroe streets in Rockville.
Donated bikes should be in good working condition or require only minor repairs. Volunteers with Rockville Bike Hub will refurbish the bikes before they are distributed through MCDOT’s Bike Match Program, Rockville’s Terrific Kids program or Bikes for the World. Bikes that cannot be repaired will be recycled.
MCDOT’s Bike Match Program has provided bicycles to more than 1,000 Montgomery County residents since June 2020. According to the department, another 450 people are currently on the waiting list to receive a bike.
Residents can also organize bicycle collections at schools, places of worship or within their neighborhoods and bring the bikes to the October 16 drive.
