Montgomery County Native Jordan Hawkins Signs With Chicago Bulls

Montgomery County native and former Gaithersburg High School basketball standout Jordan Hawkins has signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, the team announced Tuesday.

Hawkins will wear No. 15 for Chicago. In a corresponding move, the Bulls waived guard Isaiah Stevens. The signing comes less than a month after Hawkins was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis released Hawkins over the weekend, making him available to sign with another team.

Hawkins spent his first three NBA seasons with New Orleans after the Pelicans selected him 14th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. He has averaged 8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1 assist per game during his NBA career.

Hawkins attended Gaithersburg Elementary School, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown and Gaithersburg High School, where he played his freshman and sophomore seasons before transferring to DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville. He averaged 20.2 points per game as a sophomore at Gaithersburg.

At DeMatha, Hawkins was named the 2020-21 Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year before continuing his career at UConn. He helped lead the Huskies to the 2023 national championship and entered the NBA Draft that summer.
