Markoff’s Haunted Forest in Dickerson has been ranked the No. 1 haunted attraction in the country by The Scare Factor, an independent haunt review organization whose teams travel the country to experience and evaluate haunted attractions firsthand.
The Montgomery County attraction earned a 9.72 rating to take the top spot nationally, ahead of Fear Factory SLC in Salt Lake City, Utah, which ranked second with a 9.70, and Fear Forest VA in Harrisonburg, Virginia, which placed third with a 9.67.
Another Maryland attraction also made the top 10, with Laurel’s House of Horror earning the No. 10 spot nationally. Markoff’s Haunted Forest has operated in the woods of Dickerson for more than 30 years, offering its signature haunted trails along with The Town and other attractions.

The attraction credited the thousands of actors, crew members, builders, artists, staff members, friends and family who have contributed to Markoff’s over the past three decades, as well as the visitors who have returned year after year. “#1 in MARYLAND, #1 on the EAST COAST and #1 in AMERICA!” Markoff’s stated.
