Roof Collapses During Darnestown/Germantown House Fire, Five Adults Displaced

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire in the 14600 block of Seneca Farm Lane in Darnestown/Germantown at approximately 4:24 p.m. Saturday.

According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, firefighters encountered a large fire at the rear of the two-story single-family home that had extended into the attic and through the roof. Approximately 65 firefighters responded, with crews using tankers to shuttle water into the area, which does not have fire hydrants.

Due to the extent of the fire in the attic, the roof collapsed, prompting firefighters to temporarily evacuate the structure. All firefighters exited safely and continued extinguishing the fire from outside before beginning to reenter the home to open walls and extinguish remaining flames.

Only one occupant was home when the fire began, and all residents escaped without injury. Three dogs initially reported missing were later found unharmed at a neighbor’s home.

Five adults have been displaced. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
