Kusshi Continues Montgomery County Expansion With $150K Bethesda Fitout

Just a few weeks after a permit was issued for Kusshi Sushi’s upcoming Germantown restaurant, the local sushi brand has reached another milestone in its Montgomery County expansion.

A $150,000 permit has now been issued for the fitout of Kusshi’s second Bethesda restaurant at 4611 Sangamore Rd, in the former Passion Fin space, according to Maryland Newsletters. An opening timeframe has not yet been announced.

As we previously reported, Kusshi also has a Germantown location in the works in the former Zane Japanese Eatery space next to Beers and Cheers. A $150,000 permit for work at that location was issued last month. When it opens, Germantown will become Kusshi’s first upcounty Montgomery County restaurant.

Kusshi is also preparing to enter Prince George’s County for the first time at The Station at Riverdale Park. That restaurant is planned for 4501 Woodberry St, the former home of Le Fantome Food Hall, which closed permanently in April 2025.

Kusshi made its debut at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda in 2018 and developed a following for its sushi, specialty rolls and modern, casual atmosphere. The brand has since expanded throughout the DMV, with Montgomery County locations in Bethesda, Rockville Town Square and Downtown Silver Spring, along with an expanding presence in Northern Virginia.

We’ll provide an update when an opening timeframe for the new Bethesda location becomes available.
