The owners of Black Ankle Vineyards are preparing to open a second estate winery, Live Edge Vineyards, with its tasting room expected to debut in 2027.
Live Edge Vineyards was founded by Ed Boyce and Sarah O’Herron, the winemakers and owners behind Black Ankle Vineyards. The new winery is located on a farm along Peach Tree Road, where Boyce and O’Herron plan to continue their focus on wines made from grapes grown on the property.
According to the owners, the idea behind the Live Edge name comes from the woodworking term for leaving the natural edge of a tree intact rather than cutting it into a perfectly straight line. The philosophy carries over to the winery’s approach to winemaking, with an emphasis on allowing the characteristics of the vineyard, grapes and individual vintages to shape the finished wines.
“At Live Edge Vineyards, our aim is to capture the interest and complexity of nature in each bottle of wine that we make,” the owners said. They described their approach as creating an environment where the grapevines can flourish while allowing the plants and wines to express their individual characteristics.
While the Live Edge tasting room is not scheduled to open until 2027, the winery has already begun offering an early look at its wines through a series called “The First Pour” at Black Ankle.
The small-group tastings are held in a licensed Live Edge space inside the Black Ankle warehouse and are limited to 10 guests. Attendees taste four Live Edge wines accompanied by bread and olive oil while learning more about the new winery. First Pour tastings are currently offered Thursdays at 3pm and Fridays at 6pm.
Additional details about Live Edge Vineyards and its 2027 tasting room opening are expected to be announced as the project progresses.
