Hong Kong Tea House is now open at 605 Hungerford Dr. in Rockville, located in the shopping strip between Giant and The Fitz condominiums. Its first location opened a couple years back in Centreville, VA.
The new restaurant and tea shop offers a large menu of Asian-inspired drinks, Chinese street food, rice dishes, sandwiches and desserts. According to the business, its goal is to create a casual gathering space centered around drinks, food and hospitality.
The beverage menu includes Hong Kong milk tea, Taiwan brown sugar milk tea, taro and Thai milk teas, several oolong varieties, ube and taro lattes, Kyoto matcha lattes, fruit teas, smoothies and cheese slushes. Boba and other toppings are also available.
On the food side, Hong Kong Tea House offers several Chinese street-food specialties, including rou jia mo, sometimes referred to as a Chinese burger, with options such as slow-stewed pork and stir-fried beef. The menu also includes jian bing guo zi, a Chinese street crepe made with egg, green onion, cilantro and sauce, with traditional and more contemporary variations available.
Other offerings include Sichuan pickled fish, spicy mala fish, malatang, chicken skewers, popcorn chicken and wonton soup.
Rice dishes include tomato and egg over rice, Hong Kong-style minced beef rice, Japanese-style gyudon and curry dishes. Some are available with additions such as fried chicken cutlets or panko shrimp.
The menu also ventures into American and fusion comfort food with double smashed beef cheeseburgers, popcorn chicken and char siu chicken sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks and waffle fries.
Dessert options include French-style fruit crepes and hot donut cups served with fruit or ice cream.
