Northwest High School Principal Scott Smith is currently on leave, according to a letter sent to the school community by Montgomery County Public Schools on Wednesday, October 14.
During Smith’s absence, assistant principal Danielle Abdelsalam will serve as acting principal. “Under her leadership, we are confident that the operations of the school and instructional program will remain strong during Mr. Smith’s absence,” wrote David Chia, Director of the Division of School Leadership and Improvement for the Northern Region 6 – Seneca Valley and Northwest clusters.
Chia said he will maintain a consistent presence at Northwest High School to support Abdelsalam, the administrative team, staff, and students.
MCPS did not provide additional information regarding Smith’s leave or how long he is expected to be absent. The district said it is committed to sharing more information regarding the length of his absence when it becomes available.
