Metro has announced temporary service changes on the Green, Orange, Silver, and Blue lines as part of planned winter construction from December 16 through December 30.
Beginning at 10pm Wednesday, December 16, through Wednesday, December 30, Green Line trains will single-track between U St and Georgia Ave-Petworth while crews repair or replace rail and fastening systems and restore communications, signal, and lighting infrastructure.
All Green Line stations will remain open, with trains running every 16 minutes.
During the work, Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq, with no Yellow Line service to Greenbelt. Yellow Line trains will run every eight minutes, except on Christmas Day, December 25, when trains will operate every 16 minutes.
A second round of single tracking will begin Sunday, December 20, and continue through December 30 between McPherson Sq and Smithsonian.
Orange, Silver, and Blue line trains will single-track through that area, with trains on all three lines operating every 20 minutes on weekdays and weekends.
Work will include repairs to grout pads and concrete, replacement of rail and fastening systems, and facility and lighting infrastructure repairs.
Metro said it scheduled the construction during the holiday season because ridership is typically lower, helping reduce the impact on customers. The work is part of Metro’s twice-yearly planned construction periods designed to give crews uninterrupted time to complete safety and reliability projects.
