Maryland Barbecue Restaurant Named One of the Best in D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia by Washington Post

2Fifty Texas BBQ has been named one of the best restaurants in the D.C. area by Washington Post food critic Elazar Sontag. Located at 4700 Riverdale Rd. in Riverdale Park (Prince George’s County), 2Fifty came in at No. 26 on Sontag’s list of “The 40 Best Restaurants in and Around D.C.”

Sontag praised the restaurant’s Central Texas-style barbecue with Salvadoran influence, highlighting its pepper-crusted beef ribs, brisket-filled tamales and Sunday-only pupusas. He also noted that the Riverdale Park location regularly begins selling out of items well before its 7pm closing time.

“Four years later, 2Fifty still holds the crown,” Sontag wrote, referencing Washington Post food writer Tim Carman’s previous search for the region’s best smoked meats.

2Fifty was founded in 2020 by husband-and-wife team Fernando González and Debby Portillo, who are originally from El Salvador. González brings Central Texas-style, wood-smoked barbecue together with flavors influenced by his Salvadoran background.

The restaurant has since received recognition from a number of national and regional publications and organizations and has expanded with an additional location in D.C.’s Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood.

The Washington Post ranking is the latest honor for 2Fifty. The restaurant was previously named one of the best barbecue restaurants in America by loveFOOD, which highlighted its wagyu brisket along with sides including mango salad, sweet potato mash and sweet beans with brisket.

Earlier this year, 2Fifty also earned national recognition on Yelp’s list of the “Top 100 BBQ Restaurants in the U.S., According to Yelp Elites.”
