A Frost Advisory remains in effect for northwestern Montgomery County until 9am Sunday, October 18, as temperatures are expected to fall into the low-to-mid 30s overnight. A Freeze Warning is in effect for some surrounding areas.
The National Weather Service says temperatures as low as 33 degrees could result in frost formation across portions of central Maryland and northern and central Virginia. In Montgomery County, locations included in the advisory include Germantown, Boyds, and other areas of the northwestern portion of the county. The advisory remains in effect until 9am Sunday.
Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, and some plants may be killed if left uncovered. Residents are encouraged to bring tender plants indoors when possible or cover sensitive vegetation that cannot be moved.
Areas farther north and west are under a Freeze Warning through 9am Sunday, with temperatures expected to fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s. The warning includes portions of Frederick and Carroll counties, as well as areas of western Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, the coldest temperatures are expected in sheltered valley locations, particularly along and west of the Blue Ridge. Forecast lows across the region range from approximately 27 to 38 degrees.
Freeze conditions in areas under the warning could kill crops and sensitive vegetation and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
