The Moore-Miller Administration and the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office (MHSO) have launched a new statewide crash data dashboard providing detailed information about crashes across Maryland, including those resulting in serious injuries.
The new Crash Data Dashboard will be available alongside MHSO’s existing Fatal Crash Data Dashboard, which focuses specifically on fatal crashes. State officials say the two resources will give residents, safety advocates and transportation partners additional ways to examine crash trends throughout Maryland.
The new dashboard was developed by MHSO in collaboration with Maryland State Police and uses statewide crash information from the Maryland State Police Automated Crash Reporting System and Data Warehouse.
Users can break down crash information by severity, year, month and jurisdiction. An interactive heatmap provides a geographic look at crash activity, while additional filters allow users to explore factors including driver behaviors, injury severity, crashes involving pedestrians and other non-motorists, and incidents occurring in work zones.
Unlike the Fatal Crash Data Dashboard, the new tool includes crashes across all severity levels and will be updated daily. “Access to comprehensive crash data is essential as we work with the public, safety partners and decisionmakers to reach our goal of zero roadway fatalities in Maryland,” said Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer, who also serves as Governor Wes Moore’s Highway Safety Representative.
Nizer said the expanded information can help identify trends involving serious injuries and other crashes and support efforts to prevent crashes and save lives on Maryland roads.
