Duke women’s basketball player and Quince Orchard High School graduate Olivia Martin has been selected to serve as the women’s basketball student-athlete representative on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors.
Martin, a Gaithersburg native, becomes one of three student-athletes serving on the 16-member board, which is the highest governing body for NCAA Division I. “It is an incredible honor to be selected as the women’s basketball student-athlete representative on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors,” Martin said. “I am so excited to represent Duke University in this role and listen to and advocate for the needs of all D1 women’s basketball athletes to make positive change.”
Martin attended Quince Orchard High School, where she was captain and MVP of the girls varsity basketball team and received the Dan Shea Scholar Athlete Award. She was also a four-year letterwinner in track and field and was part of Quince Orchard’s school-record-setting 4×400-meter relay team.
Her accomplishments at Quince Orchard extended beyond athletics. Martin graduated as class valedictorian and was a Governor’s Merit Scholar, a recipient of the Superintendent’s Certificate of Meritorious Service and a representative on the MCPS Student Athlete Leadership Council. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and English Honor Society.
Martin initially joined Duke women’s basketball as a student manager before earning a spot on the roster as a walk-on midway through the 2023-24 season. She appeared in three games during the 2024-25 season and two games in 2025-26.
In announcing the appointment, Duke described Martin as a “powerful student-athlete voice for women’s collegiate basketball players,” adding that she will represent Duke while advocating for athletes on the national collegiate athletics stage.
