A benefit concert featuring members of O.A.R. that was scheduled for Monday, October 26, in support of Wootton High School has been postponed due to illness.
Wootton PTSA Fundraising Chair Lisa Friedman Sontheimer announced the postponement, saying ticket holders should check their email for information about next steps. A new date has not yet been announced.
O.A.R. members Marc Roberge and Richard On, both Wootton Class of 1997 graduates, also shared a message with the Wootton community. “I, along with Richard and Dr. Bostic were SO looking forward to tomorrow’s shows to benefit the PTSA and celebrate the place we’ve called home for so long,” Roberge wrote. “Unfortunately, and I’m gutted over it, I’m knocked down with a fever and I can’t do the shows tomorrow.”
Roberge said the group plans to reschedule the benefit for a new date. The concert was scheduled to take place at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring, with performances at 5pm and 6:30pm. Roberge and On were set to perform alongside musician Greg Berg, with special guests from the Wootton Acatonics.
O.A.R. traces its roots to Wootton High School in Rockville, where its founding members met and began playing together before attending Ohio State University. The band later returned to Wootton for a concert on the school’s football field in 2001 and went on to achieve major commercial success.
Proceeds from the benefit are slated to support the Wootton PTSA, Booster Club and Patrons of the Arts as students and staff transition to the school’s new building. Organizers said they will provide an update once a new concert date has been determined.
