CBS’s ‘Ghosts’ Returns With Halloween Special Featuring Two Wootton Graduates

CBS’s Ghosts returns with a one-hour Halloween special on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 9pm, with the hit comedy carrying a notable Montgomery County connection with two of its stars being graduates of Rockville’s Thomas S. Wootton High School.

Utkarsh Ambudkar, who stars as Jay Arondekar, was born in Baltimore and raised in Rockville while his parents worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. He graduated from Wootton before attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Ambudkar has built an extensive film and television career, with appearances in series including What We Do in the Shadows, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards and The Mindy Project, as well as films including Pitch Perfect, Free Guy and Brittany Runs a Marathon.

Fellow Wootton graduate Richie Moriarty stars as Pete Martino, one of the ghosts inhabiting the Woodstone estate. Pete was a Pinecone Trooper leader who died in 1985 after accidentally being shot through the neck with an arrow. Moriarty moved to Rockville with his family when he was five years old, attended Fallsmead Elementary School and later graduated from Wootton.

Ghosts, which premiered on CBS in 2021, follows married couple Sam and Jay after they inherit a country estate inhabited by a group of ghosts that Sam can see and communicate with. The series has become one of CBS’s most successful comedies and has maintained a strong audience across broadcast and streaming. The one-hour Halloween special airs Thursday, Oct. 29 at 9pm on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
