Chaps Pit Beef, with three locations across Maryland, has been named home to one of the 20 Best Sandwiches in America by The Infatuation.
The Infatuation, a restaurant review and dining guide owned by JPMorgan Chase, included Chaps’ signature pit beef sandwich on its national list of 20 standouts from across the country. “You’ve probably heard of Baltimore’s penchant for crabcakes and softshell crab, but real ones know the best sandwich in town is the pit beef from Chaps,” The Infatuation wrote.
The sandwich features thinly sliced rare roast beef cooked quickly at a high temperature and piled onto a soft roll. According to Chaps, keeping a steady flow of freshly cooked beef is an important part of preventing the meat from drying out. The Infatuation recommends dressing the sandwich with onions, pickles and Chaps’ classic tiger sauce, a combination of horseradish and mayonnaise.
Chaps currently has Maryland locations in Baltimore at 720 Mapleton Ave, Aberdeen at 1013 Beards Hill Rd, and Glen Burnie at 6714 Ritchie Hwy. The restaurant previously had a Frederick location at 4969 Westview Dr. The Frederick restaurant, which opened in 2018 as the first Chaps franchise location, permanently closed in early 2023.
Chaps Pit Beef has long been known for its Baltimore-style pit beef, a Maryland specialty featuring beef grilled over charcoal, sliced thin and typically served with raw onion and horseradish-based sauce.
