A new scratch bakery in Columbia is already drawing lines and selling out of some of its offerings just weeks after opening its first storefront, according to popular Maryland food blogger Nomtastic Kim.
Flour Fable Baking Co. soft opened September 12 at 6656 Dobbin Rd, Suite K in Columbia, expanding a business that began roughly two years ago as a cottage bakery. The bakery held its grand opening celebration on September 26th.
Owner Sam Bierman initially built Flour Fable through farmers markets, festivals and regular flavor drops while also working a full-time job. About 10 months after starting the business, she made the move to running it full time before announcing plans for a permanent storefront earlier this year.
The business, originally known as Flour Fable Cookie Co., changed its name to Flour Fable Baking Co. as it expanded beyond its signature cookies. The bakery specializes in stuffed cookies and a rotating selection of cinnamon buns, cakes, brownies and other baked goods, along with a full coffee bar featuring house-made syrups. Everything is made from scratch in-house, including fillings and coffee syrups, according to the bakery.
Recent offerings have included a caramel banana pudding cookie made with white chocolate chips and Nilla wafers and stuffed with brûléed banana caramel sauce, along with a salted honey cornbread bun. Other selections have included ube crinkle and chocolate chip cookies, blondies and brownies.
The menu rotates, and buns and cake slabs are available on weekends. Vegan and gluten-free selections are also offered among the rotating menu. The new bakery has quickly attracted attention. Local coverage during its first weeks reported lines at the storefront and repeated sellouts of cookies. Flour Fable’s posted weekend hours even come with the caveat that the bakery may close earlier if it sells out.
In addition to its baked goods and coffee, the shop features an area showcasing work from local artists. Flour Fable Baking Co. is located at 6656 Dobbin Rd, Suite K in Columbia. The bakery is currently open Thursday and Friday from 10am-6pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am-3pm, or until sold out.
