Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded around 2:30pm Thursday to the 8600 block of 16th Street near Lyttonsville Road in Silver Spring after a construction excavator struck a gas line.
An update identified the damaged line as a 2-inch high-pressure gas line. HazMat crews are assisting, and no hazardous explosive-level gas readings have been detected in nearby buildings.
Southbound 16th Street is closed between Lyttonsville Road and East West Highway.
