The regular season is officially in the books, and the road to the state championships is about to begin.
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) has released the final point standings used to determine playoff seeding across all classifications. Montgomery County teams now have a clearer picture of where they stand heading into the postseason, although a few administrative adjustments and withdrawals have added some wrinkles to the process.
The football point system has been updated to reflect official violations and forfeitures reported by local school systems. The changes affect two area programs: Blake in Montgomery County and Wise in Prince George’s County.
Several schools have also elected to withdraw from the playoffs, including Rockville and Watkins Mill in Class 3A West. Other withdrawals across the state include Friendly (Class 2A/1A South), Patterson (Class 3A East) and Catonsville (Class 3A North).
The playoff picture is not quite final. The MPSSAA will publish updated point standings on Monday, November 2, to account for games played against out-of-state and private-school opponents that have not yet been factored into the current calculations. While those results will be incorporated into the official standings, the update is not expected to change the playoff positioning of Montgomery County teams. In other words, the current standings provide a reliable snapshot of where MoCo programs stand heading into the postseason.For now, the published standings provide the first look at the regional playoff picture, including which MoCo teams have secured favorable positioning and which face a tougher road through the postseason.
Below are the current point standings for all Montgomery County teams and their respective regions. The football point system awards points for wins (win points) and bonus points for each win of an opponent that has been defeated (Bonus Points). The points listed below are reflective of the contests submitted by each member school and will update automatically based on each school’s weekly submission.
