IKEA’s Plan and Order with Pickup location in Annapolis has now permanently closed, marking the second of three IKEA locations in the DMV scheduled to shut down this fall.
The Annapolis location closed on October 30, following the closure of IKEA’s Georgetown location on October 18. The company’s Fairfax location is scheduled to close November 30. IKEA’s full-size College Park store and its Plan and Order location at Rio in Gaithersburg will remain open.
IKEA previously said the closures are part of its strategy to build a more affordable, accessible and sustainable business, with the company continuing to invest in home delivery, pickup services and digital shopping. Employees at the affected locations were given opportunities to relocate to nearby IKEA stores, including College Park.
Customers with ongoing projects from the closing locations can continue working with IKEA through other locations or remotely online.
The Gaithersburg Plan and Order location opened in March 2024 at 101 Boardwalk Place at Rio. Unlike a traditional IKEA store, the smaller location allows customers to meet with IKEA specialists to design, price and order products for projects such as kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. Products and food are not available for immediate purchase at the location. The Rio IKEA is open from 11am to 7pm seven days a week.
