Rockville-based Bethesda Game Studios dropped a surprise title reveal this morning, Tuesday, November 3, for its highly anticipated next fantasy-RPG game, officially titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
The game is the upcoming major installment in Bethesda’s massive The Elder Scrolls franchise. The reveal ends a long wait for gaming fans. Bethesda first announced the game with a brief teaser back in June 2018, marking more than eight years of anticipation leading up to today’s update.
The announcement was featured during a 40th-anniversary retrospective video hosted by studio director Todd Howard, accompanied by a standalone title teaser trailer posted across Bethesda’s social media platforms. The quick clip showed sand blowing across the screen to reveal the ‘Sentinel’ title, hinting that the game’s story will take place in a desert region. However, company officials noted that full development is ongoing and it will still be some time before an official release date is announced.
Bethesda Game Studios stands as one of Montgomery County’s most recognizable corporate success stories. Founded in Bethesda in 1986, the company later expanded and relocated its headquarters to Rockville, where its core operations remain today.
The studio is widely known for producing popular video games, including the multi-billion-dollar hits such as Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and modern entries in Doom franchises. The local company reached even bigger heights when tech giant Microsoft acquired its parent company in a massive $7.5 billion deal that finalized in 2021.
Founded in June 1986, the company has been marking its four-decade milestone throughout 2026 with retro logo rollouts, in-game community events, and special promotions across its major titles, with today’s announcement serving as the centerpiece of the ongoing celebration.
