Lidl has signed on to open a new grocery store at White Oak Town Center, taking over the space formerly occupied by Amazon Fresh at 12263 Prosperity Drive in Calverton.
Amazon Fresh opened the White Oak location in March 2025, but the store’s run lasted less than a year. Amazon announced in January 2026 that it would close all of its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go grocery stores nationwide as the company shifted its focus toward Whole Foods Market and grocery delivery through Amazon.com.
The closures included all four Amazon Fresh stores in Montgomery County, with two locations in Chevy Chase and one each in Gaithersburg and White Oak. Most Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores closed at the beginning of February.
At the time of the announcement, Amazon said a limited number of Amazon Fresh locations could eventually be converted into Whole Foods Market stores, although the company did not identify which locations were being considered. Additional information regarding Lidl’s anticipated opening timeline has not yet been announced.
