Montgomery County Police issued a traffic alert at 5:53pm stating that Bel Pre Road is shut down at Arctic Avenue in Aspen Hill. Updated with additional information.
Per the alert, “Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect delays.” A witness has noted that a driver crashed into a fire hydrant in the area leading to the street flooding.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer, one vehicle was involved in the crash. The driver struck the fire hydrant and it was sheared off, resulting in localized flooding. The road was as damaged and some lanes were blocked. The driver was transported to the hospital, but the severity of the injury is unknown.
