According to District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos, police, health inspectors, and permitting officials conducted a crackdown on unlicensed street food vendors in downtown Silver Spring on Saturday night, citing violations such as lack of proper licensing, unsanitary conditions, and unsafe food handling practices.
Cokinos tweeted, “Crackdown on unlicensed street food vendors 📝 Vendors need to be licensed, clean and sanitary, and meet the standards so people don’t get sick 🤢
Due to complaints, last night your @mcpnews 3rd District Officers in conjunction with @MoCoDHHS (health inspectors) and @MontgomeryCoMD (permitting) targeted the downtown Silver Spring area due to non permitted and unsafe street food sales.
We found food sale locations that were not licensed and not meeting health standards. No hand washing or ability to sanitize, no gloves, meat laying out… etc. 🤢
We want people to make money and be safe. Just have to do It the right way!”
