Montgomery County Police 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos announced that MCPD is increasing efforts to combat crime and retail theft in Silver Spring during the holiday season. Last night, proactive officers seized an illegally possessed handgun and AR pistol with a drum magazine during a traffic stop.
Cokinos wrote, “Your @mcpnews 3rd District is deploying additional resources targeting crime and retail theft. We started tonight, and are already seeing success. Proactive officers assigned to the crime detail made a traffic stop and seized an illegally possessed handgun and AR pistol with drum magazine. Very dangerous weapon taken off the streets!”
Cokinos told ABC7 that shootings have decreased by 62%, auto thefts by 42%, robberies by 25%, and carjackings by 50%. However, retail theft has risen by 25%.
