3-Month-Old Infant’s Death Under Investigation; Mother in Custody

Authorities are investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant in the 7300 block of Summit Ave of Chevy Chase, initially reported as a drowning, with the mother taken into custody and an autopsy pending to determine the cause and manner of death.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), “On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at approximately 12:12 p.m., 2nd District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the above location for the report of an infant drowning. Upon arrival, officers located a 3-month-old victim, who was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The victim’s mother was taken into custody at the scene.

The decedent will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause and manner of death. This is an active and ongoing investigation.”
