Are fellow parents feeling the pressure of having to schedule an entire summer’s worth of camp six months in advance? Well, if that sounds like you then you might want to check out Planuary. The PTA at Oakland Terrace Elementary School is holding its first annual summer camp fair on Sunday, January 19 from 9-12.
What does Planuary mean? Well, the name came about because people feel like they need to plan all their kids’ summer camps in January. To help alleviate some of that stress, there will be more than 20 camps on-site at Oakland Terrace ES, located at 2720 Plyers Mill Road in Silver Spring. The school created Planuary as a service to the community and it is free and open to the public, not just the school’s families. La Finca will be on-hand selling their coffee and Patisserie Manuel will offer up their pastries as well.
To make it fun for the whole family, Kids After Hours will have some inflatables set-up in the gym, MoEd will have a gaga pit, HoopEd will have a basketball activity and School of Rock will have students play two sets of popular music. All that will be in the gym while the food and drinks, along with face painting, coding, science experiments, learning Mandarin, arts and crafts and a panda mascot will be in the cafeteria as well as some other fun activities.
As part of its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day service project, at Planuary, Oakland Terrace is also collecting serviceable bikes, usable bike accessories and equipment, and donations for Bikes for the World, a nonprofit that refurbishes bicycles for communities in need around the world. You can find out more at bikesfortheworld.org.
