Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Intentional SUV Attack Near Rockville Courthouse in 2023

Walter Giovanni Marquez-Aviles, 44, of Gaithersburg, was arrested in Hyattsville for three counts of attempted murder and first-degree assault after intentionally striking multiple people with an SUV in Rockville on December 14, 2023.

According to a FOX5 report, officials believed Marquez-Aviles saw the family of his son’s suspected murderer after court and struck them with his vehicle.

Per the City of Rockville Police, “On December 14, 2023, at approximately 2:36 p.m. Rockville City Police responded to 199 East Montgomery Avenue for the report of multiple people struck by a dark colored SUV, the striking vehicle did not remain on scene. The investigation led investigators to determine this was an intentional act. Since the date of the vehicular assault, the Montgomery County Police Department Repeat Offender Unit and the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force have assisted the RCPD Criminal Investigation Unit with locating Walter Giovanni Marquez-Aviles, age 44, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Today at 10:15 a.m., Mr. Marquez-Aviles was apprehended in Hyattsville, Maryland where he was arrested for three (3) counts of Attempted Murder and three (3) counts of First- Degree Assault.
