The Damascus (Division 1), Clarksburg (Division 2), and Seneca Valley (Division 3) Varsity Poms won the 2024-2025 Montgomery County championship on February 1 at Montgomery Blair High School.
Megan Stultz, a teacher at Damascus High School shared the following with us: The Damascus Varsity Poms team is guided by three coaches: Brianna Nelson, Sam Yosef, and Alexis Garrish. This year’s roster includes 15 members, led by senior captain Keira R. alongside seniors Sammi F., Maggie G., Megan L., and Lily L. The team also features five juniors—Caleigh H., Sasha K., Maggie M., Shannon M., and Sophia O.—as well as five freshmen: Stella H., Kylee M., Cassidy P., Rachel S., and Taryn T (photos of the team available below, courtesy of Damascus HS).
According to Damascus High School, “In 2021, at the start of the first full school year after Covid, the Damascus Poms team almost did not exist. There were no returning team members or coaches following the school shutdown and so the team started anew. Brianna Nelson took over as head coach and a small team of 8 was formed. They were determined to grow, put in the work, learn from each other, and do what it takes to succeed. Now, 4 years later, 4 of the 8 original team members from 2021 are seniors. These dedicated dancers have helped grow this team over the years. Using their grit and determination, the Damascus Poms have had an astonishing undefeated season this year and a choreography award win at the Seneca Vally Invitational. This incredible season was made even sweeter by ending it with the team earning the coveted title of Division 1 county champs.” Additional results, per MCPS, below:
