Damascus Man Facing Numerous Felony Charges Following Violent Robbery and Assault in PA

West Hazleton Police have charged David William Kelpy (40, Damascus, MD,) with robbery, aggravated assault and numerous other charges following an early Saturday morning incident.

According to West Hazleton Police, “On Saturday February 15, 2025, at approximately 01:10 am, Police were summoned to an East Broad Street address for the report of a fight and stolen vehicle.

An investigation revealed Kelpy rammed a pickup truck he was operating into the back of a legally parked and occupied sedan. Kelpy then ripped the occupant from within the vehicle, tossed them onto the roadway and struck them numerous times in the face and body. Kelpy stole the victim’s cellphone and ran them over with their own vehicle as he fled the scene in the stolen sedan.

Later in the morning, Pittston Township Police located the stolen vehicle and apprehended Kelpy, who was turned over to West Hazleton Police. Kelpy was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Dixon and committed to the Luzerne County Correctional facility.

West Hazleton Police were assisted by officers from the Hazleton City, Butler Township and Pittston Township Police Departments during this incident.”
