The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested an adult male at the Wheaton Best Buy for possessing fake IDs. A follow-up investigation revealed he had been using stolen IDs to fraudulently buy and return goods nationwide, leading to the recovery of multiple stolen items.
According to MCPD District 4 Commander David Smith on Twitter/X, “On 2/26/2025, our @mcpnews patrol officers stopped an adult male at the Wheaton Best Buy for possessing fake ID cards. He was arrested at the scene, and our 4th District Patrol Investigations Unit took a deeper look into his activities.
Their follow-up investigation revealed that he had been using stolen IDs to fraudulently buy and return stolen goods for profit both here and across the country. Here at the 4th District we do not recommend those activities as a strategy for long term success.
Today, we recovered multiple stolen items as a result of that investigation and are actively investigating further crimes he may be involved in.
Great work by our officers and detectives to stop this scheme in its tracks!”
