On a recent evening shift in downtown Silver Spring, an officer from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District utilized license plate reader technology to identify a stolen vehicle.
According to District 3 Commander Jason Cokinos, while patrolling the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue, just north of the Washington, D.C. line, the officer’s equipped police car received an alert regarding a stolen vehicle that had entered the parking lot of a 7-Eleven. After confirming the vehicle’s stolen status, additional officers arrived at the scene and safely took two adult suspects into custody.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Prince George’s County. Both suspects were subsequently charged with felony auto theft. Additional information about the suspects was not shared.
