The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested 37-year-old Joshua Tyrell Mundy for shoplifting and resisting arrest during a retail theft operation in downtown Silver Spring. Mundy was caught attempting to leave a CVS store with stolen items and fought with officers before being subdued with a taser and taken into custody.
According to MCPD, “On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., employees at the CVS located at 1290 East West Highway alerted officers to an active theft in progress. Mundy was seen hiding multiple items in a large bag and attempting to leave the store without paying.
CBD bicycle officers spotted Mundy carrying the stolen merchandise as he walked toward the Silver Spring Metro Station. When officers attempted to stop him, he ran and actively fought with officers in an attempt to get away. Officers deployed a Taser and used department-trained control techniques to safely take him into custody. As a precaution, Mundy was evaluated at a local hospital before being transported to the Central Processing Unit.
Mundy, of Royal Oak, was charged with theft under $1,500 and resisting arrest. He is currently being held without bond.”
