Despite widespread reports and shared posts on social media– especially Facebook– Buc-ee’s currently has no plans to open a Maryland location.
A Facebook post, viewed by hundreds of thousands of Maryland residents, has readers expressing excitement over the potential arrival of Buc-ee’s. However, this post circulated a user-created, opinion-driven article advocating for a Maryland location rather than reporting any confirmed plans. We will not share that post further in order to minimize the spread of the miscommunication.
As we noted last year, Buc-ee’s is planning to open its first Virginia location in Rockingham County at the exit 240 interchange along Interstate 81 near Harrisonburg, VA, which is over 125 miles and about two hours from most parts of Montgomery County. The Texas-based company expects to open this location by June 30th.
Additionally, another Virginia location is scheduled for the next couple of years in New Kent County at the exit 211 interchange along Interstate 64—approximately 140 miles from most parts of Montgomery County. Last year, Buc-ee’s also applied for a conditional use permit to develop a 74,000 sq ft facility on Courthouse Rd, off exit 140 in Stafford, VA—about 52 miles from Bethesda, MD.
Given the lengthy approval and development processes for these locations, any potential Maryland site would likely face a similar timeline. Therefore, there are no current plans for Buc-ee’s to open in Maryland.
