Chick-fil-A’s experimental “Little Blue Menu” test kitchen, located at 7242 Baltimore Ave. in College Park, Maryland, will lay off 91 employees effective May 14 as part of a planned remodel, according to a Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the state on March 14.
The digital-ordering-only concept, which debuted in September 2023, tested an expanded menu featuring wings, burgers, pizza, and other items not typically found at traditional Chick-fil-A locations. The restaurant’s name pays homage to founder S. Truett Cathy’s original blue menu at the first Chick-fil-A location. Notably, the Little Blue Menu leaned into regional tastes by offering Maryland’s iconic Old Bay seasoning as a topping for items like french fries, sweet potato tots, and onion rings.
According to a BizJournals report, a Chick-fil-A spokesperson confirmed that the College Park location will undergo renovations to add a dining room. “Little Blue Menu looks forward to remaining a part of the College Park community and continuing to serve our Guests great food and remarkable service,” the spokesperson said in an email to BizJournals.
The report states that a permit for the interior remodel was submitted to Prince George’s County in November 2023 but remains under review. Affected employees will be offered severance packages, and they will have the option to re-apply for positions when the restaurant reopens.
