Below Zero: Below Zero Swiss Science Skin Restoration is a skincare brand that specializes in cold therapy to “enhance beauty and slow aging.” According to its website, the company aims to revitalize skin, promote dopamine secretion, and encourage self-care while prioritizing sustainability and ethical practices.
Garage– Montreal-based Garage is set to open a new location in the recently vacated Aeropostale space. “For the independent it-girls,” Garage is a trendy clothing store specializing in casual and stylish fashion for young women, offering a variety of denim, tops, dresses, loungewear, and accessories. Known for its laid-back yet fashion-forward aesthetic, Garage caters to those looking for comfortable everyday wear with a trendy edge. The chain currently has a nearby location at 1961 Chain Bridge Road in McLean, VA.
Subway– Subway is scheduled to open this spring in the former space of J. Chow’s, which closed in December 2023. With nearly 37,000 locations worldwide, Subway is one of the largest restaurant chains globally.
Thai Express– Thai Express is set to open soon at the dining terrace, taking over the space formerly occupied by Ruby Thai Kitchen, which closed on January 1. Thai Express is expected to open shortly after a quick remodel. The Ruby Thai Kitchen at Westfield Wheaton Mall remains open.
UNIQLO– In October we let you know that Japanese retailer UNIQLO was coming to Montgomery Mall. Now we know the retailer has received a permit valued at $1.425 million to build out the store. It will be taking over the space that was previously home to Express in the upper level. UNIQLO is known for their “high-quality, made for all” clothing and is expected to open in mid-2025, per Westfield. The store has current Montgomery County locations in Pike & Rose and Downtown Silver Spring. Founded in Yamaguchi, Japan, in 1949 as a textiles manufacturer, UNIQLO has since grown into a global brand with over 1,000 stores worldwide, dedicated to quality and innovative textiles.
Closing:
Forever 21: According to representatives at the location, Forever 21 is expected to close by the end of April. The store has been running a going out of business sale since mid-February. Forever 21, a fast-fashion retailer known for trendy and affordable clothing, previously had Montgomery County locations in at Ellsworth Place in Downtown Silver Spring, Wheaton Mall, and the now-closed Lakeforest Mall.
Merlo: Merlo Furniture Designs, which was located in the space previously occupied by Talbots, on the mall’s lower level, is running a going out of business sale. Merlo is a boutique store offering a selection of European furniture, decor, and art, featuring a range of styles and personalized design consultation services. Merlo has an additional location at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, VA.
Recently Closed:
Tesla: Tesla has closed its location at Montgomery Mall. The showroom was located on the mall’s lower level near Lululemon and Vineyard Vines, and served as a space where prospective buyers could explore Tesla’s electric vehicle lineup, learn about the brand’s technology, and place orders. Tesla has additional Montgomery County showrooms at 1300 Rockville Pike and 2320 Broadbirch Dr in Silver Spring.
Tomato: Egyptian based clothing store Tomato has closed. The store specialized in casual clothing for men and kids. According to its Instagram page, the chain has additional locations Waldorf, Md, Fairfax, VA, and Woodbridge, VA.
